Jennifer’s Story
“When I was 12 years old, I remember borrowing books on medicinal plants from the local library. I wrote down their content and memorized the plants, which one to use for what. I wanted to study medicine to become a doctor. However, my family discouraged me and I abandoned my plans. Instead, I studied international business, learned to speak fluent Business Chinese, and excelled at my job – but not happy. My health deteriorated, and no doctor could explain to me why I was in so much pain. I was given painkillers and told to come back when I needed more. My pain and my suffering were real and I wanted to be better. I missed my old, active life in which I went diving, practised yoga or hiked on forgotten paths in faraway places…
Little did I know that this suffering would bring me back on my path to practise medicine. Eventually, I left my career in finance to study holistic medicine which would allow me to look at the body and “dis-ease” from various angles – Western medicine, natural remedies, unresolved emotions, misalignments, and spirituality or pain of the soul.
As a Naturopath, I practice holistic medicine and look at the body AND the mind – from the structure, to your diet, sleep patterns, your childhood and personal life. My own experience with “unexplainable pain” and “it’s all in your head” plays a fundamental role in how I look at patients and treat “dis-ease”. It led to my specialisation in the connection between unresolved emotions in the subconscious and the subsequent development of pain and discomfort.
Most women store emotional trauma in the uterus, which is a lot more than just a reproductive organ. My interest in women’s health, fertility, and childbirth led me to undergo training as a birth doula. The journey of learning and growing continues every day…
